Verus SMSF Actuaries is committed to providing high quality products and services to you and this Privacy Policy outlines our ongoing obligations to you in respect of how we manage your Personal Information.

Our Privacy Policy adopts the Australian Privacy Principles (APPs) contained in the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth) (the Privacy Act). The APPs govern the way in which we collect, use, disclose, store, secure and dispose of your Personal Information.

Collection and Use of Personal Information

Personal Information is information or an opinion that identifies an individual. Examples of Personal Information we collect include: names, addresses, email addresses, and phone numbers.

This Personal Information is obtained in many ways including via written correspondence, by telephone, by email, via this website and from third parties acting on your behalf.

We collect your Personal Information for the primary purpose of providing our products and services to you (either directly or via your representatives). We may also use your Personal Information for secondary purposes closely related to the primary purpose, in circumstances where you would reasonably expect such use or disclosure.

Third Parties

In some circumstances we may be provided with information by third parties acting on your behalf (for example, the trustee of a SMSF, an accountant, an administrator, a financial advisor, etc). Unless there is evidence to the contrary, we will assume that you have provided consent for your information to be provided to us.

Disclosure of Personal Information

Your Personal Information may be disclosed in a number of circumstances, including the following:

As part of our Information Security Policy, where we provide your Personal Information to a third party, we will also require that person or entity to safeguard that information in a manner that is consistent with our Privacy Policy and our Information Security Policy.

Your Personal Information is stored in a manner that protects it from misuse and loss and from unauthorised access, modification or disclosure.

When your Personal Information is no longer needed for the purpose for which it was obtained, we will take reasonable steps to destroy or permanently de-identify your Personal Information. However, most of the Personal Information is or will be stored in our client files which will be kept by us for a minimum of 5 years.

We do not process or store any Personal Information overseas. All Personal Information retained by us is stored within Australia.

We note that there are certain risks in the transfer of information via the internet that are not possible to fully mitigate or secure against. However, we are committed to using security best practices to protect Personal Information that has been provided to us from unauthorised access, use, disclosure, modification and loss.

We also restrict access to Personal Information on a “need to access” basis. A number of policies and procedures have been implemented in our systems and workplaces to safeguard your Personal Information.

If you have been issued credentials to access our client portal, you should take care to store those credentials in a secure environment, to ensure your Personal Information remains protected.

Access to your Personal Information

You may access the Personal Information we hold about you and to update and/or correct it, subject to certain exceptions. If you wish to access your Personal Information, please contact us in writing.

We will not charge any fee for your access request, but may charge an administrative fee for providing a copy of your Personal Information, if significant work is required to process your request(s).

In order to protect your Personal Information, we will require identification from you before releasing the requested information.

Maintaining the Quality of your Personal Information

It is important to us that your Personal Information is up to date. We will take reasonable steps to make sure that your Personal Information is accurate, complete and up-to-date. If you find that the information we have is not up to date or is inaccurate, please advise us as soon as practicable so we can update our records and ensure we can continue to provide high quality products and services to you.
